Applying for State Exam
- Your first step is to go to “My Profile” on the Florida Department of Financial Services website at https://aalf.fldfs.com/common/com_index.asp. On this page “Individual” will be grayed out. Enter your SS# or license # and date of birth then login. You will be applying for an Agent License. From this page you can apply for a license, apply to take the state exam, check the status of an application, apply to re-take the state exam, check licenses and appointments, check your CE status, update your personal information, and request a letter of clearance. Fees charged by the Department are as follows: Application-$50, Exam-$56, License-$5
- NOTE: IF you are applying for the license prior to completing the course, you must answer (YES)that you have completed the course so that you can continue with the application process. The nameof the course is then entered and the number of the license requested. They will also ask you the completion date of your course. Just enter the date you are due to finish class.
- Your next step is to be fingerprinted. Remember you cannot be licensed in Florida if you have been convicted or plead guilty to a felony. The fingerprinting is a background check. Logon on to PearsonVue at www.pearsonvue.com. Go to “Insurance” and “Florida Department of Financial Services” then to “fingerprint reservations”. The fee is $58.25. Once you have completed the information for the fingerprints you will receive a confirmation number. Take this when you go to have your fingerprints scanned. Or go to www.fldfs.com and click on “Licensing and Renewal Information” , then on “Register for Fingerprinting”. Fingerprints are electronically scanned. Once you have been cleared the Department will be notified.
- On completion of your course the school will forward all of the necessary documentation to the Department via email. The Department allows 20 days from the completion of the course for this information to be forwarded to them by the Providers. Normally we complete this task within 2 to 5 days following course completions. It takes approximately 2 weeks to receive approval to sit for the state exam. You can check on the status of your application by logging onto the Department’s website (follow instructions in #1)
- There are three ways to check the status of your application:
a. Wait until you receive your authorization packet from PearsonVue
b. Check online with the DFS at “My Profile”
c. Call the DFS at 850-413-3134 or call PearsonVue at 888-274-2020 - Once approved to sit for the state exam, contact PearsonVue to set a test date. This can be done via telephone, 888-274-2020 or the internet at www.PearsonVue.com.
