A. For agents licensed in Florida for at least 6 years when their compliance period begins, only 20 hours is required. These 20 hours must be in Intermediate or Advanced classes, not basic. We only provide Advanced or Intermediate classes. For agents licensed less than 6 years when their compliance period begins the requirement is 24 hours. ALL agents must also have at least 3 hours in Agents Ethics within their required hours. If you are unsure as to your requirement then the best thing would be to check with the Department of Financial Services (850) 413-3137 or check the website at www.fldfs.com.

Q. Do I have to report my continuing education credits to the Department of Financial Services?
A. No. We are a certified school in Florida and as such are required to file the list of students attending classes and being certified. The agent’s responsibility is to take the required courses on time and retain a copy of the Certificate of Completion for at least 5 years. Schools get 20 days to report course attendees to the Department. We generally report within a couple of days after the course is completed.

Q. Can you repeat the same course for continuing education and receive credit?
A. You cannot repeat a course within a three-year period and receive credit. We change our courses about every year to eighteen months and generally check to see if students are repeating a course of ours so that it can be changed.

Q. I need 3 hours of Life and Health Continuing Education and 6 hours of Property-Casualty Continuing Education. Will the Department give me credit for these if I take one 10-hour generic class?
A. Yes. The Department will split the hours for the generic and apply them to what is needed.

Q. I need 20 hours of continuing education. Is the new requirement for 3 hours for Ethics part of these 20 hours or in addition to the 20 hours?
A. It is part of the total 20 hours.

Q. I am late getting my continuing education credits. Will the Department suspend my license?
A. Generally they will fine the agent $250 and require they take the required continuing education hours within about 90 days. They will also cancel all appointments and not permit any new appointments until these requirements are fulfilled.

Q. I took an Ethics course at Broward Community College. Will your Ethics class be a repeat?
A. No. All of our courses are unique to our school. No other school has our courses even though they may be similar in content or name.

Q. How quickly do you report the continuing education credits to the Department of Financial Services?
A. Schools have 20 days to report classes. Our school reports classes within a week following the end of class and usually within a day or two.

Q. My compliance period ends this month. Will my credits be reported before the end of the month?
A. Agents are required to sit for all of their credits by the end of their birth month. Schools have 20 days to report classes. The agent has fulfilled their responsibility as long as they have TAKEN all of their required hours by midnight on the last day of their birth month.

Q. I cannot find my Certificate of Completion and need it for my job. Can you send me a new one?
A. Yes. It will cost $25 and is payable in advance. All paper files are packed away and this takes time for us to locate your class. They cannot just be printed again as we must have instructor’s signatures.
